7 Road Trip Tips for Your Summer Vacation to the Lake

The Lake of the Ozarks' central location makes it an easy road trip destination for many. Whether you're coming from St. Louis or Kansas City, Illinois or Kansas, a road trip to the Lake this summer could be just what your family needs. Today's blog from your favorite Lake of the Ozarks resort offers some road trip tips for you to keep in mind:

1. Have Your Vehicle Serviced.

Before you hit the road, have your mechanic take a look at your vehicle to make sure everything is in tip-top shape. The last thing you want to happen is be stranded on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck when you could be reaching your vacation destination. Check the fluid levels, brakes, tires and anything else that could cause you problems on the road. You also want to make sure your spare tire is properly inflated and that you have a jack and jumper cables on hand.

2. Make Sure Your Documents Are Handy.

In the event you get pulled over on your road trip, you'll want to have your documents handy. Make sure your auto insurance is up-to-date and your latest cards are in your glove box or center console, where you can easily get to them if needed. You also want to make sure you have your license in your wallet and that your vehicle registration is also up-to-date. Driving around with expired license plates is not a good idea. In addition, you may want to clear up any old traffic tickets before you head out.

3. Pack an Emergency Kit.

You never know when you'll end up in an emergency situation. Be prepared for whatever your road trip may throw at you, from a flat tire to horrible weather conditions. Traveling with the right necessities is key. Include in your kit: maps, flashlights, an emergency blanket, rain ponchos, hand warmers, bandages, gauze, ointment for cuts, aspirin, a thermometer and 3 days worth of water and food. While some of these items may not apply to a short, summer road trip, it's always better to be over-prepared than under-prepared.

4. Bring Some Entertainment Options (Especially If You Have Kids).

Pre-load your electronics with plenty of entertainment options. For you, maybe that's a new playlist of your favorite songs or some podcasts you've been wanting to listen to, but never find the time. For the kids, that could be downloaded Netflix movies or shows and some new games from the App store. Make sure you have something to keep everyone entertained so they don't get bored and grouchy.

5. Pack Your Vehicle Lightly.

When you're not flying, it's easier to over pack. Make sure you don't overload your vehicle, as you may come across some things on your road trip that you want to bring back with you. You also don't want to be crammed into a car with no extra room to move around. You want to make your space as comfortable as possible for the long drive ahead.

6. Carry Some Cash for Tolls.

The Kansas Expressway and other toll roads can easily pop up out of nowhere. It's always a good idea to carry some cash on you for unexpected expenses such as these. You also never know when technology will present issues and you wished you had some cash on you. Run through the ATM before hitting the road and heading to the Lake, you'll thank us later!

7. Map Your Route Ahead of Time.

Unless you have no timeline on when you have to arrive somewhere, it's best to do a little pre-planning before you hit the road. You want to have a general idea of how to get where you're going. While having a GPS is great, you don't want to rely solely on technology. Be sure to bring maps with you as well in case of technical difficulties. It's okay to get off route and check out that place you saw a billboard for, but you'll be less stressed if you have the slightest idea of where you're going.

After the drive, you're going to need a place to crash for the weekend, or the week, and Summerset Inn Resort has you covered. From efficiency units to larger condo-like units, we've got some of the best accommodations at the Lake of the Ozarks. Book your reservations today by calling 573-348-5073.

Last year, there were plenty of family-friendly activities happening all over the Lake including the annual fireworks displays! When making your plans for 2017, consider joining us for Memorial Day Weekend!

The Best Golf in the Midwest

Many of our Lake of the Ozarks resort guests love to play golf! Late spring and early summer is the perfect time to play a round here at the Lake. The weather is getting warmer and the area isn't crowded with the summer guests yet. The Lake of the Ozarks area is home to more than a dozen spectacular golf courses. Lake of the Ozarks Shootout Boat Races

Fishing at Lake of the Ozarks

Another popular activity for our guests is fishing! The Lake of the Ozarks area has great conditions for fishing practically all year round. If you like to fish, then Summerset Inn Resort is a great option for your Lake of the Ozarks accommodations

Labor Day Weekend

Bringing the summer season to a close, Labor Day Weekend is one of the last chances to get away at the Lake of the Ozarks while the weather is still warm. (Although this year, we're experiencing some surprisingly warm temperatures this fall.) This end-of-summer holiday weekend always features great live music and of course some brilliant fireworks displays! Just like Memorial Day Weekend, this first weekend in September is always a great choice for a Lake of the Ozarks vacation!

While these may be some popular weekends for many to vacation at the Lake, the area is great all year-round. There's always something for people of all ages to enjoy - and even during inclement weather you can find things to do, like explore one of America's most scenic caves at Bridal Cave! 5 Fall Travel Tips

While summer may be the most popular time of year to take a vacation, the fall season is also a great time for traveling, especially for road trips. There's no better time of year to meander through the Ozark Hills and take in all the beauty of the fall foliage. In today's blog, Summerset Inn Resort offers a few travel tips for the fall season.

1. Take Your Time.

Fall could arguably be the most beautiful season of the year. Temperatures in Missouri are beginning to drop and the leaves will soon begin to change color. As you're traveling to the Lake of the Ozarks, whether you're coming from across the state or across the country, take your time getting here. While flying may be faster depending where you're coming from, road trips are the perfect way to travel this time of year. The scenery is gorgeous and the weather is still nice enough you don't have to worry about getting stuck in the snow.

2. Try Something New.

While it may seem easy to run through McDonald's drive-thru because its fast and you can fit more in, be sure to try some of the local food. The Lake of the Ozarks area has a variety of local restaurants with food of a unique style that you can't find anywhere else. If you come early enough in the fall season, you'll still be able to check out the waterfront restaurants. In fact, Dog Days Bar & Grill is within walking distance of our Lake of the Ozarks resort!

3. Step Outside Your Comfort Zone.

Vacations are a great time to step outside your comfort zone and try something adventurous. Make memories by doing something you've always wanted to do, but never had the courage to try. Maybe you want to go parasailing or take a ride over the Bagnell Dam in a helicopter. The Lake of the Ozarks area offers plenty of activities for you to try this fall season.

4. Choose The Right Travel Companion.

Depending on where you're traveling from, you could be in the car for a long time. Therefore, its important to pick the right travel companion(s). Choose someone that is also looking for adventure, someone that's not afraid to try the new restaurant with you or fly above the Lake. Sharing the experience with a friend, lover or family member will make the vacation even more special and memorable.

5. Take Pictures.

While this tip may seem obvious, the fall season offers the perfect backdrop for great pictures. The Lake area is gorgeous when the leaves start to change. Even after your vacation is over and you have to head back home, you'll have awesome pictures to remind you of the time you had here at the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks.

Make this fall memorable by visiting the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks! Start planning your trip today and book your reservations at the best resort at the Lake of the Ozarks, Summerset Inn! Give us a call at 573-348-5073 to learn more about our accommodations and availability this fall season.
