Top 20 Things to Do at Lake of the Ozarks: Part 2

Memorial Day Weekend is the unofficial start to Summer! Join us at the Lake of the Ozarks and participate in the many family-friendly attractions this beautiful area has to offer. Last week, we brought you the first half of our 2 part series: Top 20 Things to Do at Lake of the Ozarks. Here are the next 10 things to check out on your next vacation at the Lake of the Ozarks:

TRIPADVISOR'S TOP THINGS TO DO AT THE LAKE

#11 Shawnee Bluff Winery

Shawnee Bluff Winery offers wine by the bottle or by the glass. They also offer wine tastings in a beautiful setting with gorgeous views of the Lake of the Ozarks. Situated atop the bluff, the winery offers a 14 mile incredible, panoramic view of the Lake. Originally renovated in 2011, they now have new decks to enjoy the wine and the view, an indoor tasting room and bistro, and a new brick oven to prepare the best pizza at the Lake.

#12 Game & Entertainment Centers

Pirate's Cove Adventure Golf, Sugar Creek Mini Golf and other miniature golf courses offer fun for the whole family. The courses here at the Lake range from beginner to challenging, with your ball rolling through extraordinary landscapes, waterfalls and more!

#13 Horseshoe Bend Brewing Company

Horseshoe Bend Brewing Co., is a micro-brewery located on "the Bend", of Lake of the Ozarks, a 7-mile long peninsula. After homebrewing for a few years, Chris and Carrie Case transformed a Firehouse from the 70's into a 7-barrel brewhouse. They focus on traditional brewing methods along with new techniques to produce distinct full-flavored beers! While they don't provide structured tours, the facility has open windows allowing you to look into where the magic happens!

#14  Swinging Bridge

The swinging bridge, located in Lake of the Ozarks State Park, is one of the most remarkable of the man-made attractions in this area. The bridge was designed when the original low bridges that existed on the tributaries of the Osage River became covered with water when the Lake was built. The bridge is made of wood and is an amazing work of engineering genius.

#15 Casa de Loco Winery

The perfect reason to visit the Lake of the Ozarks, OR the perfect place to go if you’re already here, Casa de Loco provides a unique and memorable experience.  Whether you’re stopping by for a short visit, spending the day or even staying with us for the weekend, you will find a wonderful way to spend your time.  Stop by the gift and wine shop for a tasting, enjoy a glass of your favorite wine out on the patio, take in the view of the river from the bluff top, walk down to the river for a closer look, or even float to us!

#16 Theater & Performances

Main Street Music Hall offers 3 great shows each season! The Best of Main Street Opry has made the show a favorite destination for over 20 years now. Reelin in the Years has also been proven to be a big hit with the audiences of the Main Street Music Hall the last four years. During the Holiday season, Christmas on Main Street never disappoints!

#17 Golf Courses

When it comes to Missouri golf, Central Missouri's Lake of the Ozarks Golf Trail is way above par. Home to more than 13 area golf courses carved out of Missouri's Ozark Hills. The courses feature beautiful tree-lined fairways and many courses overlooking the Lake of the Ozarks itself. From beginners to seasoned pros, the variety of courses will challenge anyone's golf game. Many Lake of the Ozarks golf courses are designed by world-class notables such as Arnold Palmer, Tom Weiskopf, Bruce Devlin and Robert Von Hagge. The Lake of the Ozarks Golf Trail is the premier destination for golf in the Midwest.

#18 Lake of the Ozarks State Park

Lake of the Ozarks State Park has a little bit of something for everyone. Crave water adventure? Lake of the Ozarks has a full complement of boating options. Want a quiet place to hike or mountain bike? The park’s thousands of wooded acres have lots of places to get away from it all, with 12 trails that wind through the park. Cabins and yurts make the park a welcome place for families looking to enjoy the lake but escape the hustle and bustle of some of the nearby towns. And Ozark Caverns, complete with its lantern-light cave tour, presents an unforgettable experience.

#19 Bagnell Dam

The Bagnell Dam is where the lake begins and the fun never ends! It impounds the Osage River, creating the Lake of the Ozarks. The 148-foot tall concrete gravity dam was built by the Union Electric Company (now Ameren UE) for the purpose of hydroelectric power generation as its Osage Powerplant. The facility with eight generators has a maximum capacity of 215 megawatts. Located near the dam is the Bagnell Dam Strip, featuring shops, restaurants, attractions and more!

#20 Lazer Force Lazer Tag Zone

Lazer tag is like a real life "Role Playing Game." When you step into the arena you find yourself engulfed in blacklight, fog, flashing lights and heart pumping music. Excitement from start to finish for players 5 to 85 years of age. When playing, a player shoots a lazer beam at another player's lights. When you tag them, you receive points for the tag and they will go down for 5 seconds (meaning they can't shoot). Unlike paintball, there's no pain! When the game is over, you can't believe how much fun you had. You come out and get your scorecard that tells you who you shot, who shot you, how well you did, and how well your team did. Win or lose, everyone had fun and is ready for another exciting game.

Come stay with us at our Lake of the Ozarks waterfront resort and experience all that the Lake has to offer! With several different suites that are perfect for a romantic getaway or the Villas at Summerset offering “second home” spaciousness in a condominium format that the entire family will enjoy. #1 Ha Ha Tonka State Park

Imposing architecture and breathtaking scenery combine to make Ha Ha Tonka State Park one of Missouri’s most treasured spots. Located on the Lake of the Ozarks, the park features the stone ruins of a turn-of-the-20th-century castle built by a prominent Kansas City businessman high atop a bluff. More than 15 miles of trails traverse the park, leading visitors to sinkholes, natural bridges, caves and down to the lake.

#2 Ozark Distillery

Ozark Distillery is a small family-owned business making Handcrafted spirits in small batches. We use time honored methods to produce a Corn Whiskey Moonshine that is smooth and sweet with a light corn flavor and aroma. Using distilled corn spirits, we infuse natural flavors such as real apples, blackberries, and vannila beans to produce our Flavored Moonshine.

At Paradise Parasail, we have time-proven experience and safety you can trust. From this height, the riders can enjoy the breathtaking views of Lake of the Ozarks. Rated as one of the most scenic caves in America, Bridal Cave features giant columns, delicate soda straws and massive draperies throughout the cave. Guided tours leave every few minutes and last approximately one hour. Tours are conducted over concrete pathways through the Cave's refreshing 60 degree environment.  Park interpreters will lead you and your family through room after room of incredible mineral deposits. Millions of years of struggle between water and rock have created this cavern with more onyx formations than any other known cave or cavern. A tour through Bridal Cave is a family adventure you will never forget.

Willmore Lodge is the home of the Bagnell Dam History Museum. This historic log building was completed in 1930 for Union Electric. In 1997, Stop by for visitor information and to hear sites and sounds from Lake of the Ozarks since passed.

6 Last Minute Mother's Day Gift Ideas

Mother's Day is just two days away and you still haven't gotten anything for your mom. Your Lake of the Ozarks waterfront resort is here to help you out with these inexpensive, easy to make, last minute Mother's Day gift ideas:

1. Breakfast in Bed

It's not a new concept, but it'll always put a smile on your mom's face. Being able to sleep in and not have to cook your own breakfast is something most mother's rarely get to do. Show her how much you care about her with a nice breakfast in bed.

2. Coupon Book

Mom is always doing things for everyone else in the family, so now its your turn to do some things for her. Make a coupon book of things you're willing to do so she doesn't have to. For example, you could have a coupon good for doing a load of laundry, cooking dinner or babysitting your younger siblings. You could also include things like a movie night or spa day at home.

3. Foot Massage

After a long week of taking care of children, laundry, dishes, cooking and more, mom could use a little relaxation. A foot massage is an inexpensive way to show your mom how much you appreciate her and thank her for everything she does for you. You could even surprise her with a bottle of her favorite lotion.

4. Chocolate.

What mom doesn't love chocolate? You could go buy her some chocolates or better yet, make something at home. Make anything from chocolate cupcakes to Oreo truffles. It doesn't have to be anything extravagant, just a little treat she can enjoy that she doesn't have to make herself.

5. Flowers

Take an old mason jar or vase and spice it up with some paint, glitter, ribbons or whatever else you can find around the house. Then fill it with some beautiful fresh flowers. While mom will the love the flowers, she'll also have something to keep once they're gone.

6. Homemade Card

It's easy to go pick up a card off the shelf and sign it. However, nothing says "I love you" more than a homemade gift. Something as simple as a homemade card shows how much you care. It shows your mom that you put effort into making this Mother's Day an extra special day for her.

Happy Mother's Day from Summerset Inn Resort! We hope you have a wonderful weekend with your families. If you're looking to get away for a weekend, come check out the finest small resort on the Lake of the Ozarks! Located just minutes from restaurants, shopping and more, Summerset Inn Resort is the perfect place to spend a weekend or a week!
