7 Reasons Everyone Needs to Take a Vacation

One thing many American's take for granted is their vacation time. Many people feel they are too busy to take a vacation or don't have the money to take a vacation. The truth is you really should take a vacation at least once a year. In today's blog, your favorite Lake of the Ozarks resort offers a few reasons everyone needs to take a vacation, even it's just a short little weekend road trip.

1. To Relieve Stress.

One of the most important reasons everyone should take a vacation is to reduce the amount of stress in their life. Whether you're experiencing a burnout or you have too much pressure at work, taking a vacation can dramatically reduce that stress. Don't force yourself to keep working with no breaks: your body and mind both need time away from everyday stressors and taking a vacation is a great way to accomplish that.

2. To Prevent Illness.

Research shows that going on vacation can actually improve your health. Excessive stress on your mind and body can alter your immune system and lead to illness. By reducing that stress, you'll not only feel better emotionally, but also physically. Taking a vacation is a great way to help prevent illness, from the common cold and flu to more serious conditions such as high blood pressure and heart disease.

3. To Increase Happiness.

Studies have shown that stress can actually alter brain structure, contributing to depression and anxiety. Research shows that women who do not take regular vacations are 3 times more likely to become depressed and anxious. People who take regular vacation on the other hand, report feeling extremely happy with an overall feeling of well-being. Many of those reports stated that effects lasted well after the actual vacation as well.

4. To Improve Sleep Quality.

Studies have shown that taking vacations and traveling regularly can actually lead to an almost 20% improvement in sleep quality. Often times, you average an hour more of quality sleep while on vacation and that sleep can also carry on once you're back home.

5. To Increase Productivity.

Not taking vacation can cause exhaustion, impatience, poor decision making and even illness. Studies show that more vacation time actually increases productivity, and also reduces the number of sick days taken. Reports show that many people feel more creative after taking time off, and they also report feeling more satisfied with their jobs when they're able to take regular vacations.

6. To Recharge and Increase Energy.

Continuous work with no breaks can make people feel tired, distracted and even blocked. These problems concentrating can easily be rectified with some time off. Surveys show almost 3/4 of people who vacation regularly feel energized and more ready to tackle the tasks at hand.

7. To Learn Something New.

When you're stuck in the office, doing the same things day after after day, it can be hard to learn something new. Using your vacation time allows you free time to read a book or follow some other interest or hobby. When you take the time to travel to new places, you experience knew things, many of which may give you knowledge to bring back with you.

Make it your goal to vacation more in 2017! Whether it's just a weekend road trip or flying across the country, be sure to take some time for yourself. Summerset Inn Resort is here to help you plan the perfect vacation at the Lake of the Ozarks. Get a Jump Start on Your 2017 Vacation Planning

With 2016 coming to a close in just a couple short months, now's the time to think about how your 2017 is going to look. Do you have plans for how to make next year even better than this one? Do those plans include traveling? If not, they should! A vacation is something that everyone can benefit from, giving you time to relax, de-stress and re-charge. In today's blog, your favorite Lake of the Ozarks resort offers a few tips to jump start your 2017 vacation planning!

1. Pick a Place to Go.

The first step in planning a vacation is choosing where you want to go. Might we suggest a road trip to the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks! We weren't voted #1 recreational Lake in the country for nothing - the area offers plenty of fun for people of all ages. Whether you live in Missouri or one of the surrounding states, the Lake area is easily accessible due to its central location. Road trips can be a great way to bond with family and friends, and often times can be much cheaper than flying.

2. Choose the Length of Your Trip & Possible Dates.

Once you've decided where you want to go, its time to think about how long you want to stay. Depending on how far you're traveling, you may want to stay for a long weekend or for an entire week or more. Nailing down the length of your trip and possible dates will help you determine where you can stay, what you can do and a budget. The Lake of the Ozarks area is an extremely popular vacation destination from mid-June through mid-August, and booking early is your best bet for ensuring you get the best accommodations!

3. Create a Budget to Stick To.

Vacations can be expensive, but creating a budget can help you keep your spending from getting out of control. Research how much your accommodations are going to cost, the costs of particular activities you want to do, how much you're going to need for food, etc. One way to slim down your budget is to stay in a place with a kitchen or kitchenette so you don't have to eat out every meal. In addition, look for fun activities that are free or low-cost. The Lake of the Ozarks area offers a lot of budget friendly activities for people of all ages.

4. Start Saving Money Now.

Depending on the budget you've come up with and how much the trip is going to cost you, you're probably going to want to start saving money now. Take a look at your personal budget and see where you might be able to cut costs and set some money aside for your 2017 vacation! Another thing to think about is booking your accommodations early and paying it off in chunks up to the time that the vacation is scheduled for. You can also purchase tickets to certain amusements ahead of time. By spreading out the costs across several months, you'll have less of a huge expense when vacation time rolls around.
