The Ultimate Lake of the Ozarks Vacation Planning Checklist

Summer is just around the corner - have you started planning your vacation? Now's the time to start the planning, and Summerset Inn Resort is here to help! Whether you're looking for the perfect family vacation spot or a romantic getaway, the Lake of the Ozarks is the perfect place to go. Below you'll find the ultimate vacation planning checklist to help you through the process!

Ultimate Vacation Planning Checklist

Once you've decided to join us at the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks for your summer vacation, it's time to start planning the trip details. Use this checklist to keep you on track:

  1. Find Lake of the Ozarks accommodations that meet your needs! Our waterfront resort at the Lake of the Ozarks features a variety of room options from single rooms to condo-like villas with multiple bedrooms. Book your reservations with us by calling 573-348-5073.
  2. Create a Budget. Many people spend months saving up for their summer vacation. You want to make sure you enjoy yourself without breaking the bank. Creating a budget will help you do just that. Be sure to include accommodations, transportation, food and activities.
  3. Plan Your Route and Book Transportation. Due to the Lake of the Ozarks' central location, it makes for the perfect road trip for many. However, some people prefer to fly. If needed, book your airline tickets and reserve a rental car. If you're driving, you'll want to plan your route. While technology is great and you can use a GPS, you'll still want to have a general idea of the route you want to take before you head out.
  4. Research Activities at Your Destination. Are you traveling with children? Are you going on a romantic getaway. Find some activities that everyone in your group will enjoy and see what you can fit into your budget. Check out our blog on top attractions at the Lake for some ideas. Make a list of what you plan on doing during your vacation. Look to see if any special events are happening during your stay as well. (You might even do that before setting a date so you can attend an event you're interested in, like Lake Race or Shootout.) Be sure to leave some downtime and room for some spontaneous decisions as well.
  5. Create a Packing List. Think about what the weather will be like at your destination. If you're coming to the Lake of the Ozarks during the summer months, you can expect it to be hot. Be sure to pack your swimsuit, but don't forget a light jacket, as it can get chilly out on the water at night. If you're driving, don't forget to pack water and snacks for the trip. Creating a list ahead of time will keep you from over packing and help ensure you don't forget anything important.
  6. Make a List of Things to Do Before You Go. Before leaving town, you'll want to call your bank and credit card company to let them know you'll be traveling so they don't shut off your cards for fraud. If you're driving, schedule an appointment to have your vehicle checked. If you have pets, you may need to hire a pet sitter. Call the post office to pause your mail delivery while you're away. Be sure to pay any bills that will be due while you're gone before you leave as well.

Our Lake of the Ozarks resort is the most family-friendly place to stay at the Lake! It's central location makes it easy to get to all the activities and attractions that you want to enjoy during your summer vacation at the Lake. What are you waiting for? Celebrating National Picnic Month at the Lake of the Ozarks

July is National Picnic Month! Now that the warm weather is here, it's a great time to get outside and enjoy the great outdoors. A picnic with family and friends is a great way to enjoy the sunshine. National Picnic Month encourages you to celebrate the warm summer days while enjoying some delicious food outdoors. Keep reading to learn more about how July became National Picnic Month and how you can celebrate it with Summerset Inn here at the Lake of the Ozarks.

The History of National Picnic Month

Throughout recorded civilization, there's been something special about eating a meal outdoors. Once summer comes around, we're able to get out of the stuffy house we've been confined to all winter and enjoy the beautiful outdoors. The word "picnic" is thought to have first been used by Tony Willis in 1692. Since then, everyone from the working class to the upper class has been fascinated with moving there meal outdoors for a change. Throughout history, picnics have been used for a variety of purposes, from social and family gatherings to a peaceful protest in the Pan-European Picnic. The most notable, and largest, picnic ever held spanned 600 miles, crossing France from coast to coast and celebrated the millennium’s first Bastille Day in 2000. National Picnic Month celebrates how enjoying a meal outdoors can bring people together, families, friends, countries and all humanity.

Celebrating National Picnic Month

Celebrating National Picnic Month is as simple as it sounds - just grab some food and head outside for a meal! Bring your favorite foods that can be eaten cold or get some food that can be prepared in the BBQ grill area at our Lake of the Ozarks waterfront resort. Enjoy your picnic meal right here on site and take in the beautiful view of the water or pack up and take it elsewhere. There are plenty of great places at the Lake of the Ozarks to host a picnic. From the Lake of the Ozarks State Park to Ha Ha Tonka State Park, the Lake area boasts some great outdoor areas for gathering and enjoying a picnic meal with family and friends.

National Picnic Month Food Ideas

If you're having your picnic at our Lake of the Ozarks resort, you'll have access to the BBQ grill area, where you can prepare burgers and hot dogs and more. If you're thinking of taking your picnic elsewhere, you may want to pack items that are best eaten cold. You could make a large submarine sandwich to slice and share. Potato salad, cole slaw and potato chips are great side dish items for a picnic. Watermelon and other fruit options are also great choices. Lemonade is a refreshing drink to have on hand at a picnic. If you want some dessert, cookies and brownies are your best bet. The options for what foods to have on your picnic are pretty endless, and should be based on what you and your group enjoy most. You could even have a potluck picnic where everyone brings a dish to share.

We hope you take some time this summer season to have a picnic and enjoy the great outdoors. If you want to enjoy that time here at the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks, Summerset Inn Resort has your Lake of the Ozarks accommodations covered! 3 Tasty Recipes to Try This Easter

Easter weekend is almost here, and many of you are preparing for dinner guests. Signature Easter dishes include ham, deviled eggs and something sweet. Today's blog from Summerset Inn Resort takes these simple dishes and adds a delicious twist. Surprise your guests with these tasty recipes:

Pull-Apart Easter Blossoms

Source: AllRecipes.com

Photo From: AllRecipes.com
Ingredients:
  •  6 cups Flour
  • 1 Tbsp Rapid Rise Yeast
  • 1/2 cup Sugar 1
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter
  • 1 3/4 cups Milk
  • 3 Eggs, beaten
  • 1 Lemon, zested and juiced
  • 1 Egg Yolk
  • 1 Tbsp Water
  • 1/2 cup Seedless Raspberry Jam
  • 1 cup Confectioners' Sugar

Directions:
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together 4 cups of flour, yeast, sugar and salt. Set aside.
  2. In a saucepan over low heat, melt the butter with the milk until he mixture is warmed to about 110°F.
  3. Gradually whisk about 1/3 of the butter mixture into the beaten eggs, then return the egg mixture back to the saucepan. Stir in the lemon zest. (Set aside the lemon juice.)
  4. Pour the liquid ingredients into the flour mixture and stir until thoroughly combined. Add enough flour to make a soft dough.
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 8-10 minutes.
  6. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, turning the dough around to cover the surface lightly with oil.
  7. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and allow to rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
  8. Punch down the dough and let rest for about 10 minutes.
  9. Divide the dough in half, rolling each half into a round ball.
  10. On a floured surface, roll each ball into a 12 inch circle.
    Photo From: AllRecipes.com
  11. Place a drinking glass face down in the center of the circle to avoid cutting too far into the center.
  12. Then cut the dough with a knife, from the edge to the rim of the glass, into quarters. Then cut each quarter into 5 narrow strips. (The center of the dough, where the glass sits, will remain uncut.)
  13. Remove the drinking glass, and now you should have 20 strips surrounding the uncut center of the dough.
  14. Pick up 2 adjacent strips and twist them together about 4 times, pinching them at the ends. Gently coil the twist and place into the middle of the circle, where the drinking glass was.
  15. Continue creating twists and coiling them into circles, placing them around the center one to form a flower shape. The finished bread will have 9 coils (petals) surrounding the center one.
  16. Repeat steps 11-15 with the other 12 inch circle of dough.
  17. Grease a baking sheet and place the shaped breads onto the baking sheet. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and place in a warm spot to rise until almost doubled, 30-45 minutes.
  18. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  19. Beat the egg yolk with water in a small bowl and brush the mixture over both the breads.
  20. Bake in the preheated oven until the breads have turned golden brown, about 25 minutes. Allow to cool.
  21. Use your fingers to gently deepen the indentations in the center of each petal. Fill each with about 1/2 to 1 tsp of raspberry jam.
  22. Mix the lemon juice and confectioners' sugar in a bowl to form a glaze, and drizzle the glaze in thin lines over both breads.
  23. Allow the glaze to set before pulling the petals apart and serving.
