June Events at Lake of the Ozarks

Summer at the Lake of the Ozarks is underway! All your favorite annual events are back for another great year, plus there are new events being added all the time. There's always something fun to do with the family or with friends when you choose to vacation at the Lake of the Ozarks. Here's a list of upcoming events you won't want to miss!

June 3-5: Lake Race 2016
Enjoy a weekend of huge powerboat racing events at Lake of the Ozarks! June 3 is the Meet & Greet on the Strip from 4-11 PM. Saturday is Race Day, with opening ceremony starting at 10:40 AM. Viewing will be at Beavers at the Dam and other nearby establishments. Then Sunday, finish the weekend off with the Lake Race 5K Run or Walk at 9 AM and the Props and Hoses Fun Run at 10 AM, both at Beavers at the Dam. 

June 3-5: 38th Annual HK's Hospital Benefit Golf Tournament
The Annual HK’s Hospital Benefit Golf Tournament has earned in excess of $2.6 million for Lake Regional medical departments and the purchase of new medical equipment. All proceeds from the 38th Annual HK’s Hospital Benefit Tournament will benefit Lake Regional Health System. Flights re scheduled in the morning and afternoon. Friday, June 3 is the VIP/Celebrity Party, Saturday, June 4 is the Pairing Party and Silent/Live Auction, and Sunday, June 5 is Golf at The Cove. 

June 4 - 24th Annual Testicle Festival
The Testicle Festival is a huge day long cook-off of deep fried turkey testicles, booths, dancing and carnivals. Located in the heart of Olean Missouri, this festival draws thousands of locals and visitors. The event will run from 10 AM to 10 PM. 

June 7: Lake Area Orchestra at Ha Ha Tonka
The Lake Area Community Orchestra will again be staging one of its free Summer Concerts at Ha Ha Tonka State Park on Tuesday, June 7, beginning at 7:00 pm. Community members and visitors are cordially invited.

June 10: Annual Eldon Community Golf
The 26th Annual Community Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, June 10th, at the Eldon Country Club. Registration will start at 11:30 am, lunch at 12:00 NOON, Shotgun Start, 1:00 pm. There will be **Cash Prizes**, **Door Prizes**, "50/50" Drawing.

June 10: Hot Summer Nights Rag Tops & T-Tops
Hot Summer Nights on the Bagnell Dam Strip in Lake Ozark from 6-11 pm (rain or shine). Free admission and participation. All makes and models of cars, trucks, and motorcycles will line the Strip and cruise around.

June 11: Gin Blossoms Live in Concert
For more than two decades, Gin Blossoms have defined the sound of jangle pop. Come see them play on June 11 at the Ozarks Amphitheater. Doors open at 6 PM and the show starts at 8 PM.

June 16-19: Canine Cannonball
How far can your dog jump? The annual Dock Dogs jumping contest is held at Dog Days again this year. Canine athletes compete in Big Air, Extreme Vertical, and Speed Retrieve at this family friendly event. Admission is free. 

June 17-19: MO State Motocross Round 5 
High flying Motocross racing is coming to the Lake of the Ozarks on June 19th. Round 5 of the Missouri State Motocross Championship at the Riverbottom MX park on D road in Kaiser is shaping up to be huge. See the Minis up to the pros race for points and cash.  Gates open at 3 PM on Friday.

June 17-18: MidCoast Bikefest & Poker Run 
Picklehead's Roadhouse Presents MidCoast Bikefest and Poker Run Saturday, June 18. Gates open at 9 AM and tickets are $15. Enjoy a concert Bellamy Brother's with Special Guest Adairs Run. There will be a Poker Run, Bike Games, 560' Zipline, Ride in Bike Show, Burn Out Pits,Vendors and Much More! There will be a pre-party June 17 featuring Shamans Harvest with Special Guest Shannon Curfman (of Kid Rock). Gates open at 5 PM and there's no cover for the pre-party. 

June 18: Welcome to Summer Community Event  
This 2nd annual free event will feature a concert in the park and a fireworks show at dusk. Concessions will also be available for purchase. The event will run from 7-11 PM at the Osage Beach City Park. 

June 18-19: Father's Day 3-Person Scramble
Father's Day Weekend, take part in a 3-person scramble at the Eldon Golf Club. Event start times are 7:30 AM or 1 PM.

June 24: Support Our Troops Poker Run
The 9th Annual Support Our Troops Poker Run is the largest poker run at the Lake of the Ozarks. See all the big boats gather at Camden on the Lake for this great charity event. The registration pre-party is June 23 from 6-9 PM. The poker run will start at 9 AM on June 24. There will also be a pool party at Camden on the Lake all day June 25.

4 Grilling Recipes To Try This Memorial Day Weekend

Summer is officially here and kicking off today with the start of a long weekend! Wherever and however you're celebrating, a Memorial Day Weekend celebration just wouldn't be the same without a BBQ! For your dining pleasure, your favorite Lake of the Ozarks resort has created a list of delicious recipes to test out on the grill this holiday weekend:

Appetizer: Pig Candy

Makes 12-14 Strips

Ingredients: 
  • 1/2 cup Dark Brown Sugar 
  • 1/8 tsp Cayenne Pepper 
  • 1/4 cup Maple Syrup 
  • 1 lb Thick Cut Bacon  
Directions:
  1. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cayenne pepper. 
  2. Lay the bacon strips out on a wire rack over a foil lined baking sheet. 
  3. Brush the slices of bacon with the maple syrup and then sprinkle on the brown sugar mixture. 
  4. Place the entire baking sheet on the grill rack. 
  5. Once the bacon starts to crisp up (about 15 min), flip them over and add more sugar mixture to the other side and cook until fully crisp. 

Entree: Tex-Mex Burger with Cajun Mayo

Makes 4 Burgers 

Ingredients: 
  • 1 1/3 lb Ground Beef 
  • 1 Jalapeno 
  • 1/2 cup diced White Onion 
  • 1 clove Garlic 
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire Sauce 
  • 2 tsp Cajun Seasoning 
  • 1/2 cup Mayo
  • 4 slices Pepper Jack Cheese 
  • 4 leaves Lettuce 
  • 4 slices Tomato
  • 4 Hamburger Buns 
Directions: 
  1. Pre-heat grill to medium-high heat. 
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the mayo and 1 tsp of the Cajun seasoning. 
  3. In a large bowl, mix together the beef, jalapeno, onion, garlic and Worcestershire sauce. Then divide into 4 balls and flatten into patties. 
  4. Place the patties on the grill and cook for about 5 min on each side, or to your desired doneness. 
  5. During the last 2 minutes, lay a slice of cheese over each burger so that it slightly melts. 
  6. Spread the mayo on the buns, add the burgers and top with the lettuce and tomato for a completed Tex-Mex Burger!

Side Dish: Grill-Baked Potatoes with Chive Butter

Makes 4 Servings

Ingredients: 
  • 1 stick Unsalted Butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup Finely Chopped Chives, plus a little extra for garnish
  • 1/2 cup Sour Cream, plus extra for serving
  • 1 1/2 tsp Kosher Salt
  • 1 tsp Freshly Ground Pepper
  • 4 large Baking Potatoes
Directions: 
  1. In a medium bowl, combine the butter, 3/4 cup Chives, 1/2 cup sour cream, salt and pepper. Mix until smooth. 
  2. Transfer the butter to a large sheet of plastic wrap and form into a log. Wrap and refrigerate until firm, about 1 hour. 
  3. Preheat your grill. 
  4. Using a sharp knife, slice each potato crosswise at 1/3 inch intervals, cutting down, but not all the way through the potato.
  5. Cut the chive butter into thing slices and carefully tuck the butter in between the potato slices. 
  6. Wrap each potato tightly in aluminum foil. 
  7. Set the potatoes on the grill and cook until tender, about 45-50 minutes. 
  8. Unwrap the potatoes, garnish with finely chopped chives and serve with sour cream.

Dessert: Banana Boats

Makes 4 Servings

Ingredients:
  • 4 medium Unpeeled Ripe Bananas
  • 4 tsp Miniature Chocolate Chips
  • 4 Tbsp Miniature Marshmallows
Directions: 
  1. Cut the banana lengthwise about 1/2 in. deep, leaving 1/2 in. at both ends. Open the peel wider to form a pocket. 
  2. Fill each banana pocket with 1 tsp chocolate chips and 1 Tbsp marshmallows. 
  3. Crimp and shape 4 pieces of heavy-duty foil around the bananas, forming boats. 
  4. Grill over medium heat for 5-10 minutes or until marshmallows melt and are golden brown.

15 Mother's Day Fun Facts

Each year on the second Sunday of May, we celebrate moms. Whether it's a mother, a wife or a grandmother, the holiday was created to show your appreciation for what that woman has done for you over the years. In honor of Mother's Day, your favorite Lake of the Ozarks resort has come up with a list of Mother's Day fun facts for you to share with your mom this weekend!

1. The first Mother's Day was observed on May 10, 1908. The holiday was founded by Anna Jarvis and made a national holiday in 1914 by President Wilson.

 2. Due to the fact that 68% of people plan to call Mom on Mother's Day, it's the busiest phone day of the year. Around 122.5 million phone calls are made each Mother's Day.

 3. Mrs. Vassilyev of Russia holds the record for the most kids, having given birth to 69 children between 1725 and 1765.

 4. The record for the oldest mother to give birth belongs to Rosanna Dalla Corte, who gave birth to a baby boy in 1994 in Italy at the age of 63.

 5. August is the most popular month for giving birth, and the most popular day of the week to give birth is on Tuesday.

 6. Mother's Day is the third most popular holiday, after Christmas and then Easter. It is also the third biggest day of the year for sending cards.

7. Approximately one quarter of all the flowers purchased throughout the year are bought on Mother's Day.

 8. Carnations are the most popular Mother's Day flowers. Red and pink ones are given to mother's that are still alive, while the white ones are for those who have passed away.

 9. In the vast majority of languages around the world, the word for "mother" begins with the letter "M."

 10. In what was formerly Yugoslavia, children would tie up their mother on Mother's Day and the only way she could get free would be to pay her children with treats.

 11. According to moms, the one gift they love the most for Mother's Day is some alone time.

 12. In the United States, the amount of money spent on Mother's Day is approximately $14 billion.

13. Mother's Day is celebrated in close to 50 different countries around the world. 

 14. In it's early days, people observed Mother's Day by going to church and writing letters to their mothers. Eventually, sending cards and giving gifts and flowers were added to the tradition. 

 15. More people purchase fresh flowers and plants for Mother's Day than for any other holiday, except Christmas/Hanukkah.

All of our Lake of the Ozarks waterfront villas are fully equipped with an electric range, an oven, a microwave, a large refrigerator with an ice maker, a garbage disposal and a dishwasher. Basic cooking utensils, dishes and glassware are also furnished. All master bathrooms have separate showers and whirlpool tubs. Towels are delivered daily between 11 am and 2:30 pm; you'll get 1 large bath towel and 1 washcloth per person, plus 2 band towels per bathroom, 2 kitchen towels & 1 dish cloth. Every villa also has a private, spacious deck to enjoy those great Summerset sunsets! Covered boat wells are also available for rent upon request.
